The Spinone Italiano is a large, rustic pointing dog with a harsh, broken coat, a bearded face, and dropped ears. The expression is almost human, and the outline is that of a methodical Italian gundog, not a slight setter.

The Spinone Italiano is an old Italian pointing breed used on birds in field and marsh. It works at a methodical pace. The AKC lists the breed in FSS in this database; the UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.

Temperament

Spinoni are typically gentle, people-oriented, and patient. They want to work with their handler and do poorly with harsh methods. They need more field time than a casual companion of the same size.
